Legendary music venue The Boardwalk remains closed, with little sign of reopening soon, despite promoters promising it would this month.
At the end of December 2010, it was announced that the venue was undergoing a refurbishment and would reopen in February 2011.
However, the doors remain closed, and The Boardwalk’s website continues to relocate scheduled gigs, up until June of this year.
The website has no mention of a refurbishment, or a potential opening date.
The venue closed last November, with the landlord putting the company into voluntary liquidation.
In January, it was revealed that Cougar Leisure, the trading company in which the bar was part of, had gone into administration.
The Boardwalk lies on the corner of Snig Hill, and has seen some of the greatest acts perform there, including Joe Cocker and the Arctic Monkeys.
It is now renowned for hosting unsigned talent from around the area.
In December, a spokesman for the venue’s promoters said: “We have three parties interested in taking over the lease to allow us to continue.
“The music side of the business has always been a success and we have 200 performances booked for the coming year.
“We are going to be able to refurbish and reopen in February.”
